What is your favorite writing program for book writing?
I use one of two programs for my writing. As a bought piece of software I use MicroSoft word. I find that the word processor is quite versatile an its built-in spelling and grammar checker is of great help. They do not cover every contingency but having used the program for over 1 years I have noticed that I have be more proficient in my spelling and grammar. In recent years I have a lot less mistakes left behind when I think I am done a manuscript. MSWord has features you can use to design your own book covers but I find it is not for me. I then use OpenOffice Draw topose my book covers. I can create the exact book dimension for back and front cover with spine as a continuous document. This makes things simple especially when you get the formula for calculating the spine. I then use ancient photo-editing software called ArcSoft PhotoStudio for manipulating photos and some and then I build the cover on OpenOffice Draw. OpenOffice Writer is also a good word processor but I am spoiled by using MSWord. The thing about OpenOffice is that it is totally FREE and really has everything you want including spelling and grammar checking. Both have full word processing ability and I rmend OpenOffice to anyone who wishes to write but cannot afford software such as Word. The thing I also rmend is should you use OpenOffice Writer make sure you save files aspatible Word 97 because when you are ready to convert to PDF format it does a more conversion. With both programs you are able to export yourpleted work as a PDF format and with both they appear to convert better when your finished is saved as Word 97patibility. What's the best free alternative to Microsoft Office?
Google Drive and it's suite of applications is quite underrated and misunderstood. For the majority of users it will do everything you want and is as good as if not better than office online. It has a much simpler and cleaner interface albeit not as animated or colourful as office online. The ability for it to work offline is a major positivepared to office and the powerful scripting which can be done is really as powerful as you can code! It can export and open office files for legacy support to those which use office. Office online and it's 'cannot open' and 'not supported' messages get very waring it's not capable of opening or editing anywhere near as many office files as Google can but of course what it does support it supports perfectly. Microsoft Office is rarely needed and only used by most because it has be a standard. When ites to desktop solutions it is the best. If you want an alternative desktop solution look at libre office. Otherwise you really should look at Google Drive you won't regret it. Another online one to not ignore is Zoho they have an amazing selection of applications and their office suite is almost as good as Google and Microsoft offer. Unfortunately though just like Microsoft's offering there is no offline support.
How would you market Google Docs to schools?
Let clarify this question first. What kind of school are we talking about? The answer varies depending on if it elementary school vs. college. I am assuming we are going with at least high school where students are more likely to use theputer. Also what are we promoting it for? The studentputer or the schoolputers in the labs and offices? I am assuming the latter for the usage of the students. Let talk about the primary alternatives (Microsoft Office and whatever Mac uses) the school most likely uses its pros and cons and how Google Docs is better. We can then market these points. 1. Microsoft Office costs money. Google Docs is free and has been since launch. Schools are always running out of money so market toward this. This is our biggest advantage. 2. Microsoft Office may not bepatible on everything. Youll need to buy two copies for Windows and Mac (ties in with point 1). Google Docs runs on the browser so there is never apatibility problem. In fact it can even download to allpatible formats on both OS! And of course it can open anything Microsoft Office makes. 3. Microsoft Office does not allow for collaborative assignments. Since there are most likely at least one collaborative assignments in each course this is a big selling point. 4. Google Docs auto saves while students may lose hours of work due to misplacement or theputer or the program crashing. This is especially key on students in high school which tend to be unorganized. 5. Google Docs track history so you can always go back to older iterations. Again high school students probably tend to be unorganized and don save backups. 6. Microsoft Office has many different versions and your format may get messed up if you open it with a different version. Google Docs do not have this problem. 7. Google Docs support many different functions (such as Translate) that Microsoft Office does not provide. You can even download custom plugins. 8. Google Docs has permission settings so you can lock or set various permissions depending on your needs. Schools tend to have problems keeping students from doing things they shouldn be doing such as deleting files. Google Docs solves all of these. To conclude there are many advantages of Google Docs over Microsoft Office. The only possible disadvantage is that Google Docs require a constant internet connection. That shouldn be in a problem in school where there is Wifi and a constant line connection.

How big of a deal is Microsoft Office Web Apps introducing real-time editing?
Microsoft Office Web Apps finally lets you edit your office docs online in a hassle-free way. I have always experienced frustration while using Google Docs as it messes up my formatting and I usually end up downloading it and editing it on the local machine. nOffice web apps solve that problem and has been such a boon. It has most of the basic features for editing excel sheets and powerpoint presentations and makes life a whole lot think this will lead to decrease in the usage of Google Docs which still has the advantage of being free but Office Web apps is whole lot better than its myself have shifted to the office web apps and haven't used google docs since then. Office has always been Microsoft's strong suit and this just takes it to a whole new level.
